Met A New Relative

I met a new relative this week. We share several marriages between the Browns and  Lillie families and Brown and Ainsworth families.  We also share Adams family as we talked further.  Now we are exchanging photographs and plan on getting together this year in  Baraboo, Wisconsin.  Most of our relatives originally came from Vermont to Wisconsin in the early to mid 18oo's.

I also discovered an article in the Vermonter about Solomon Brown and a special horse he bought to bring his new bride home.  It also talks about their journey from CT to VT.  My relatives are Solomon Brown Sr and Solomon Brown Jr. Now I need to look further into this as Solomon Brown and Orange Brown owned special horses called French Coach Horses.  This I found out from his will on file at the Sauk County Historical Society.  If the love of specialty horses ran in the family the Solomon Brown might be a relative.

Things to know from Great Grandma Carrie Brown Young and Myrtle Young . This was in a book called Mothers Book my mother gave to me years ago.
"Solomon Brown was in the war of 1812. He trained horses for the Calvary during the civil war and also played the bugle. His sword we still have. [Grandma Myrtle later stated that they gave the sword to another relative Sue Harrington].  From Census records it shows

When I went to the Webster Prarie outside of Baraboo Wisconsin there is his Military flag on his grave.

My first blog : Here we go !  I am so thankful that I had "pack rats" in my family.  Due to their interest in their daily family lives and hoarding receipts, notes and other paperwork I feel like I know many of them better.

Among the items are my Grandmother Myrtle Young's teaching certificates from McHenry County Illinois, her marriage certificate and wedding invitation from when she married my Grandfather Jesse George Bertram, graduation certificates, postcards, photos and letters

She passed down the Brown//Craig/Young family Bible that belonged to her mother Caroline Rebecca Brown. The bible lists birth dates and locations ,marriages and deaths for most of the Brown Relatives and their families. Sheets were added as the bible filled up.

I have her Grandparents Charles Lyman Young and Amanda Maria Thompson's Marriage Certificate, 38 years of tax receipts, his daily log from when he was on the school board as treasurer, visitor log from his funeral, the cemetery deed to his plot in Delton Wisconsin and much more..
